Like
the heroines in the soap operas that have made her famous throughout
her homeland of Brazil, model/actress Ana Paula Arosio's life has
been filled with triumphs and tragedies. However, through it all, the
beautiful Brazilian has bared all. . . and won the respect of fans
and critics alike. (Mostly fans.)
Her
rise to stardom started at the age of 12 when she was
"discovered" by accidentally pushing a shopping cart over
the foot of an advertising exec. By 17 she was a star in Japan, where
a wealthy Arab once offered to |
"purchase
her" for several thousand barrels of oil and a camel. Luckily
her mother, who was chaperoning her, held out for a better offer--er, declined.
During
that trip to Japan, Ana Paula decided to turn her attention to
acting. Soon she had amassed starring roles on a number of South
American soaps. By 1994, she held the lead role in Brazil's
top-ranked "Eramos Seis." Her star had finally arrived!
Engaged
to businessman Luis Carlos Tjurs, the couple's planned 1996 wedding
was never meant to be. Just as it does in telenovelas, happiness can
quickly turn to tragedy--and it did just that for Brazil's golden
girl. Only a month before their wedding, spurred by jealousy, the
groom-to-be committed suicide in Arosio's presence. The actress was
rightfully distraught and spiraled into a career-paralyzing
depression. The press followed this closely, and she faced it with
grace. She discussed going to therapy and the recovery process openly.
Baring
her soul helped Arosio heal. Now she's a bright, bubbly,
down-to-earth, and fun-loving representative of everything for which
Brazil is known. Included in that is her love of Brazil's carnival,
where she's bared more than her soul by being an active participant
in the topless partying!
With
her personal life in check and her career back on track, Arosio has
begun to branch out for work outside South America. She's been
featured in a number of high-profile publications, and people around
the globe are beginning to take note of Brazil's sweetheart. Her
pouty lips, porcelain skin and dark, curly hair--not to mention that
killer body--are what got our attention. Besides, any woman that can
endure all that she has and still look this absolutely amazing
deserves to be MVP of the Week!
