Called
"the Asian Whitney Houston," Coco Lee has a set of pipes
without a doubt. She's also got one killer body and can stop traffic
with a flash of her pearly whites. The most surprising thing about
the drop-dead gorgeous, Hong Kong-born singer, though, is her voice.
Lee
has been known to confess, "They can't imagine what I'll sound like," |
referring
to fans hearing her for the first time. Her R&B-influenced
vocals and music surprises most, who expect more Geisha Girl than
Home-Girl. Her stunning R&B-influenced voice is as soulful as her
shapely body is sexy. And it should be. The 24-year-old was raised in
San Francisco and cut her musical teeth on such acts as Houston,
Madonna, George Michael, and former YourMVP covergirl Deborah
"Debbie" Gibson. Having released 12 albums in either
Mandarin (her native tongue) or English since beginning her recording
career, the sultry siren is a multi-platinum seller throughout Asia.
"Pictures
do her no justice," says YourMVP Editor-in-Chief Paul E.
Pratt, who had the distinct pleasure of meeting Lee during the
stateside tour supporting her first U.S. release "Just No Other
Way." "Without question she's one of the most beautiful
women I've ever seen."
We
realize that the editor is smitten--so based on her voice, beauty,
and "a smile that could light a room," Coco Lee is named
our "MVP of the Week."
