She's
got the voice of an angel, a body for sin, and--as if it could get
any better--she's a confirmed virgin! For her sophomore album, former
Britney-wannabe Jessica Simpson has also received a
make-over--complete with skirt-shortening and cleavage baring--that
helps her live up to the set's name: "Irresistible."
Apparently
Jessica is being hand-groomed by Sony head-honcho Tommy Mattola to
be his company's answer for the Mariah-less blues. Maybe it's a
natural, given that her breakthrough single, "I Wanna Love You
Forever," received across-the-board comparisons |
to
Carey, a.k.a., the former Mrs. Mattola.
While
others in her genre--the Christinas and Britneys--were showing skin
to win, Jessica won audiences over with her talent and purity. This
devout Christian and Preacher's daughter has gone on record speaking
out about the evils that are Britney's (alleged) implants. She was
also the first of the pop princesses to go on record saying she's a
virgin and will stay that way until marriage. (Perhaps this
attributes to the rumors circulating which say she and her boyfriend,
98 Degrees' Nick Lachey, are splitsville.)
Whether
or not her second disc pushes her to superstardom--or drags her to
obscurity--has yet to be seen. In the meantime, she'll have to be
content with our MVP of the Week honors.
And,
Jessica, since Nick couldn't get the job done . . .
